Andriy Shevchenko opened his account in his second spell at AC Milan on Thursday night, as the Rossoneri cruised into the group stages of the UEFA Cup.
The Ukrainian international returned to the San Siro following a disappointing spell in England with Chelsea, but he has struggled to get off the mark for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. However, he notched the only goal of the second leg as the Rossoneri overcame FC Zurich 4-1 on aggregate.
“I'm happy that I finally managed to score,” Shevchenko said. “I want to thank the fans for supporting me. It seemed like something was always stopping me from scoring but the goal finally came and it's a great step forward for me. There's plenty of work still to do, but this is an important goal for me.”
Shevchenko may not have a better opportunity to get off the mark in Serie A this weekend, when Milan travel to bottom club Cagliari who are yet to register a single point this season.
