Inter Milan continue to lead the pack in Serie A after a hard-fought 1-0 home win over Lecce, whilst Juventus slip up at home to Catania, Roma receive a bit of a drubbing at Genoa, Milan make it two on the bounce, and poor old Cagliari are defeated yet again.

Jose Mourinho enjoyed his first weekend at the top of the pile in Italy when Inter Milan beat Torino at the weekend, and the champions cemented their place at the summit with a hard-fought single goal victory over Lecce. It looked as though the Nerazzurri would have to settle for a point at the San Siro, until Julio Cruz popped up with the winning goal with just ten minutes left on the clock.

Juventus shared top spot with Inter heading into the fourth game of the campaign, yet Claudio Ranieri’s men have fallen two points behind the sole leaders after being held to a 1-1 home draw with Catania. When Amauri third goal of the season was scored on 15 minutes it looked like being a comfortable night for the Bianconeri, but Gianvito Plasmati levelled on 68.

This result allowed Lazio, who won their opening two games of the season before falling to AC Milan last weekend, to move into second place in Serie A with a resounding 3-0 home win over Fiorentina in what was the result of the evening. Stefano Mauri put the Biancocelesti ahead five minutes into the second half, and this lead was trebled within the next five thanks to goals from Goran Pandev and Sebastiano Siviglia.

Lazio take on Atalanta in their next fixture at the weekend, and the Orobici travel to the Italian capital level on points with their opponents after registering their third win of the season with a 1-0 win over Cagliari. Sergio Floccari scored the only goal of the game on 79 minutes, condemning the Rossoblu to a fourth successive defeat of the campaign which naturally leaves them at the foot of the table.

AC Milan’s revival continued with a second successive win of the campaign. A 4-1 victory over Lazio got the Rossoneri off the mark last weekend, and Carlos Ancelotti’s side followed this up with a 2-1 win at Reggina. Marco Borriello and Alexandre Pato scored the goals for the visitors either side of Bernardo Corradi’s goal. Milan now have more points than last season’s runners-up Roma, whose manager Luciano Spalletti is coming under huge pressure following a 3-1 loss at Genoa.

Napoli continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-1 win over Palermo, with Marek Hamsik and Marcelo Zalayeta grabbing the goals at the San Paolo.  Udinese recorded an impressive 3-0 win at Bologna, whose opening 2-1 win at Milan must seem a million years ago, and Torino shared a 1-1 draw at Chievo. In the other Serie A game this midweek, Siena and Sampdoria played out a dull goalless draw.
