I'm not going to write about the England game, as I don't even know where to begin. I don't really want to justify yet another mediocre performance with any article space.
One thing I'd like to say to Capello though: stop saying that you're 'satisfied' with England's performances. Please, just grow a pair and tell us what you really think, which must be something along the lines of, 'Oh God, what the hell have I got myself into?' Nobody else is satisfied with England's performances, and neither should you be.
Anyway, in other news, Gianfranco Zola and Donadoni seem like the two most likely managers to replace Alan Curbishley at West Ham. Both have been interviewed for the job, and Zola apparently impressed in the interview.
Houllier, John Collins and Slaven Bilic all seem to be out of the picture, with Bilic, sensibly enough, refusing to comment on the speculation before Croatia's game against England next Wednesday.
Michael Laudrup is still an outside contender, but then he has been linked with every job going since he resigned as manager of Getafe, so it's difficult to know how seriously to take it.
I wouldn't be too keen on Donadoni myself. He's hardly convinced me as a manager, either in terms of his playing style, his selections or his results. Italy managed to beat an incredibly deflated and under-par France side in Euro 2008, and made it to the quarter finals before being knocked out by Spain, but they never looked convincing. If it hadn't been for Buffon, quite possibly the best goalkeeper in the world, they wouldn't even have made it as far as they did.
They were thumped by Holland, and when they beat France, it was only because they were less bad than their opponents, rather than good. I'm not convinced by the calibre of the manager at all, who I think was saved by moments of individual goalkeeping brilliance rather than good tactical decisions or player selections.
Zola is inexperienced, but he's the kind of person that I'm sure fans wouldn't mind seeing in charge of their club. Without doubt Zola is one of the most brilliant players to ever grace the Premier League, and although appointing him would be a bit of a punt, it would be one which the club's supporters might warm to. Zola is the kind of person who has 'cult hero' written all over him.
And rest assured, I bet he can get West Ham playing better football than England.
