Albert Riera is the new face for Liverpool’s left wing and will play for the reds until 2012, after a deal was agreed between his former club, Espanyol, and Benitez’s squad.

£5’5 million was the amount paid by the reds, and this gives Benitez, the new player for the left side that he has been asking for throughout the summer. He used to play staying out wide much, that’s what The Kop needs at the moment. For sure he’s going to give the width that the team needs, and also he’s a very hard worker for the team.

He is very fast, even being pretty tall, and technically excellent.

The bid to get Gareth Barry from Aston Villa , didn’t have the backing of the top chiefs, so Benitez had to seek for another option, the man from Manacor (the same village as Rafa Nadal in Mallorca island) becoming his final choice.

The 26 year old is a very powerful left winger, with a strong shot, and lots of speed on the ball, already has experience in the Premier League, after six months playing for Man city in 2005-06.

Also, he has refused a bigger offer from Everton because his wish was play for the Reds, which it means that will have the backing of The Kop before arriving in England.

He has won 2 Spanish Cups, with Mallorca in 2003 and Espanyol in 2006, and spending 2004 and 2005 playing for Girnondins Bordeaux in French League.

He was one of the most disappointed players after the list of ex Manager National Team Luis Aragones, for the last Euro 2008, despite of being important part of the team in the qualifyings.
