Sulley Muntari isn’t stupid. He certainly knows Jose Mourinho would rather have Frank Lampard lining up for Inter Milan this season than him…but what does he care about that?
The Ghanaian moved to the Italian champions in a summer move from Portsmouth, but only when it emerged that Lampard would not be moving from Chelsea. But Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Pompey ace insists he is perfectly happy with this situation.
"Jose Mourinho told me that if the club is unable to sign Lampard then he wants me," said Muntari. "I understand that I am second choice but it does not weigh on my mind. Lampard remains a big player, but it is me that is at Inter and I want to do well with this team."
Since his proposed move to Inter was blocked by the Stamford Bridge club, Lampard has since signed a new five-year deal which all but ruled out a potential switch to Italy in the near future unless Inter pay big for his signature next summer. But by that time, maybe Muntari will have made the need for the England international somewhat redundant.
