Juventus have rejected a €15million offer for David Trezeguet.
The Frenchman was excluded from Raymond Domenech’s Les Bleus squad for Euro 2008, and after a dismal showing in Austria & Switzerland, maybe this is a decision the coach is now bitterly regretting.
A goalless bore draw with Romanian proceeded thrashings against both Holland and Italy, as Domenech’s side crashed out of the tournament at the first hurdle with just one goal to their name.
Maybe it would have been different had Trezeguet been named instead of, say, the inexperienced Bafetimbi Gomis of St Etienne, who played just 48 of the 270 minutes France remained in the competition.
But whilst the 30-year-old may not be in favour with his country, his club side Juventus are still well and truly members of his fan club after his struck 20 goals in 34 Serie A appearances last season.
This makes his total for the Bianconeri 130 in 216 games which equates to roughly a goal every 0.6 games, so it is little wonder Claudio Ranieri has dismissed an offer of €15million from Monaco.
The Ligue 1 club had hoped to lure their former player back to France, but they were told in no uncertain terms that the player remains a key member of Ranieri’s plans for the coming season.
Trezeguet made his name with the Principality club between 1995 and 2000, where he scored 52 goals in just 93 appearances – including 22 in 20 during his last season - before clinching his move to Turin.
